Last week, I wrote about connecting APLS to apples, about finding like minded people and building relationships with them, about constructing the foundation of a green social movement. It occurred to me that, while blog land is chock full of APLS, many of us are unaware of the other's existence. We cross paths without a comment or reside in different blog circles. Even after inhabiting the blog-o-sphere for a year, I occasionally stumble on a blog I've never read or I encounter a newly grown apple.
In an effort to help us APLS connect a bit more online, if not in person - though that can happen too! - I'm setting up a Bushel Basket on my sidebar where I'll list all APLS, blogging and non-blogging, so that we can get to know each other a bit more.
If you are an APLS (with or without a blog), please leave a comment so that I can add you to my virtual Bushel Basket.

For those of you wondering what an APLS is, the short answer is someone who cares about the state of the planet and folks living on it, who lives beneath their means, gives to charity and enjoys a lighter lifestyle. If you read this blog, you are probably an apple. For the longer answer, visit my prior post.
Many of you have commented that you are working on it but are not yet officially an APLS. Close enough!!! All you need is the desire to be an APLS. We're all working on it.
Finally, with regard to the Affluent ("A" part of the acronym), it refers to affluence worldwide. Check out where you fall on the global rich list.

I love this idea a bushel and a peck. I've done some back reading here and I guess I'm an APLS. Heck, I grew up on an apple orchard, so I love it.
You've inspired me to try to meet up with other APLS in my area. I've commented a few times that it's hard to meet like-minded people, since I'm not a parent and I'm a homebody... but I really like the green book club idea and maybe I'll look into starting one.

At first, I thought I might be able to classify myself as APLS, but then, I read the article that was linked, and my family didn't quite fit the income guidelines :). In all other respects, we probably fit, though. I just don't want to give anyone the idea that we're "rich", because we're not. We're not "affluent" either. We probably fit in the "well-off" category, though ;).
There are lots of places where you can find APLS - SustainLane, Huddler, Facebook and other social networking sites...
How do you define APLS? I have seen the discussions but haven't dug up the post where it is defined. What's the elevator pitch?
According to the Gobal Rich List, I'm fabulously wealthy, so i certainly fit the definition. And I have the cute button on my blog!
I'm striving to be an APLS but didn't know there was a name for it. If I go down the checklist, it's most like goals I'm trying to achieve rather than have succeeded in.

I am a chocolate colored apple. Grouchy on the outside and softy on the inside. And I like bookworms.
Oh, put me in the APLS basket. You know I'm happy to be in the bushel and I promise not to be the bad apple. A little bruised from time to time from falling from the green tree. You know, with birthday parties and such, but I still am crunchy and sweet if you take out the bruised parts! :o)

Wow! What an impressive array of puns! I'm still not crazy about the "affluent" bit; I know it refers to a global view, but it seems off-putting to the uninitiated. Yet I would be pleased to be tossed in the basket. I can't speak to whether I am sweet or tart(maybe saucy?), but I do pair well with crackers and cheese.
You know, Jenn, we should start an APLS group on Facebook....maybe I'll do that in all my abundant spare time. I don't know how GB manages her fifty million projects....

Burbs: No kidding! Me too. I'm kind of squishy around the middle but, hey, cook me in an apple pie and I'm all deliciousness.
Abbie: There you have to throw all the technical "apple" lingo out at me! ;-) I'm a homebody too - truly. The book club was a good way for me to start for that reason. I hope you do it. If you do, stick with it. The first few months were tough. 8 or 9 months later, it's paying off big time!

Arduous, Melissa and Jenn: A facebook or other social networking site would be awesome. Like I said before, I'm culturally incapable of setting up something like that. Melissa, it sounds like you'll do a facebook one? Maybe Arduous and Jenn can help or have ideas for one of the other networking sites? I'd love to see this movement grow and people to get connected all over the place.
And how do I manage my projects, I email folks like Arduous and say "hey, I have this idea. Wanna do a project together" and then Miss "In All My Spare Time" throws something together before I have a chance to check my email again.

Domestic Accident: What a cute little apple you are. A pink lady?
I guess I'm counted as one too. I don't think about it as change though. I've been pretty non materialistic all my life. I've had a compost pile and a veggie garden for 20 some odd years, basically since I've had enough land to put it on. My parents are better at it than I am. When I grew up, they kept turkeys, ducks and geese; had a large garden; had a greenhouse; we ground our own wheat (I won't say they, because we had one mill that was powered and one that was hand cranked, and guess who did the most hand cranking?); the bread was homemade sourdough, from a starter that is over a 100 years old); they have had solar for over 25 years (they live in the mountains of Colorado and spend about $50 a year to heat their home), and are thinking of PV; my mom canned a lot of produce; she bought what she didn't grow in bulk from the local coop and canned or froze it; my dad hunted deer. So I've back slid a lot since my childhood. But at least I've taught my kids to be non materialists too. Thats probably the most important thing. Now if only I could get them to eat from the garden.
Count me in please - we've made some changes and are working on a few more. I am constantly inspired by the many others out there and look forward to discovering a few new people and their ideas! Thanks!

That's such a cool idea, although I'll be sad when the month's over and all the links are gone. It's too bad you can't add a page or something with the links on it. Ah well, I'll use the list this month to read some new-to-me blogs.

I have an edible landscape, water with saved water from my downspouts, flush the toilet with saved shower water, and bike to get my groceries on my X-tracycle.
